What OFFF Barcelona Taught Us About Design, Emotion, and Creative Risk
Every year, OFFF Barcelona gathers some of the boldest, brightest, and most unapologetically creative minds in the design world. It’s a space where visual artists, designers, and storytellers connect; not just through stunning work, but through the philosophies and emotions behind it.
This year, MB.ioneers Catarina and Mariana flew to Barcelona to experience OFFF firsthand. And what they brought back wasn’t just inspiration, it was a refreshed perspective on what design really means, and where it’s going.
At Mercedes-Benz.io, we believe that learning from experts outside our walls is just as important as the work we do inside them. Conferences like OFFF offer a rare opportunity to step back from daily tasks and absorb new perspectives. Whether it’s a design philosophy you hadn’t considered, a tool you’ve never tried, or a story that simply stays with you.
But what makes these moments powerful is what happens after the conference - when MB.ioneers return and share what they’ve learned with their peers. That’s how inspiration becomes action. That’s how we grow together.

Creative Sparks: From Chaos to Delicacy
We asked Catarina and Mariana to reflect on the moments that surprised them most. And interestingly, they couldn’t have picked more different experiences.

For Mariana, it was Mr. Bingo, an artist known for his unapologetically sharp humour and no-filter approach to creativity. His session was a celebration of risk, irreverence, and creative freedom. He reminded the audience that sometimes, the boldest ideas come from embracing discomfort and breaking the rules.

Catarina, on the other hand, was drawn to the quiet magic of Danaé Gosset from Pencil TV. Danaé’s intricate, analog-meets-digital style was a masterclass in layering emotion into motion design. Her approach wasn’t loud, but it resonated deeply. It was a quiet, thoughtful kind of risk that stayed with Catarina long after the talk ended.
Together, these moments encapsulate what makes OFFF so special: a full spectrum of creativity, from explosive disruption to intimate reinvention. It’s not about a single trend or school of thought. It’s about exposing yourself to the unexpected and letting that expand your own creative lens.
AI, Yes. But Make It Human.
AI was a recurring theme at OFFF this year, but not in the way you might expect. It wasn’t presented as a shiny new toy - it was framed as a means to an end, a tool that becomes meaningful only when infused with human insight and intention.
As Catarina and Mariana noted:
“It’s not about using AI just because you can. It’s about using it in ways that supports and elevates the human experience.”
This particularly resonated with us! We’re tech-driven, yes, but we’re also deeply human-centered. Seeing leaders in the creative industry articulate this same balance validated the way we approach technology in our work: as a tool to enhance, not replace.
Timely Reminder: Design is Human
OFFF also served as a timely reminder that design is still, and always will be, about people.
Even with all the advancements in tooling and process, the talks that hit hardest were the ones that spoke about emotion, empathy, and intuition. They reinforced the idea that creativity is not just problem-solving, it’s meaning-making.
“Great design isn’t just functional. It’s intentional. It’s driven by empathy and the desire to create something that resonates.”
For teams like ours, working across products, brands, and experiences, this message couldn’t be more relevant. Design at its best isn’t about polish. It’s about purpose.
So… What’s Next?
We asked Catarina and Mariana to complete the sentence:
After OFFF Barcelona, the future of design is… “…raw, human, and guided by purpose—not trends.”
It’s bold. It’s emotional. It’s driven by people who dare to question, experiment, and stay curious.
Bringing It Back to What We Do
When MB.ioneers attend events like OFFF, they come back with more than just sketchbooks and tote bags. They return with perspectives that fuel innovation, creative courage, and conversation.
And that’s where the real value lies. We don’t invest in conferences for the sake of trend-spotting. We do it to help our people grow, connect, and bring that growth back into the team.
Whether it’s a new way of storytelling, a fresh approach to design systems, or simply a shift in mindset - every insight shared becomes part of something bigger. Something we build together.
Because at Mercedes-Benz.io, creativity is not a solo journey. It’s something we shape, and reshape, as a community.
