What Vue.js Amsterdam Taught Us About Tech, Community, and Growth

Porfírio Ribeiro, Thiago Martins · May 9, 2025

Every year, Vue.js Amsterdam gathers developers from around the world for two days of talks, learning, connection, and lots of fresh energy. It’s a chance to zoom out from day-to-day tasks and dive into what’s shaping one of the most loved JavaScript frameworks — and this year, a few of our MB.ioneers were there to experience it firsthand.

We asked Thiago Martins and Porfírio Ribeiro to share their reflections. From new perspectives on accessibility to real talk on what it means to grow as a developer, here’s what they brought back.

What’s next for Vue — and why it matters

Thiago kicked things off with the session that opened the event: The State of Vue 2025, led by Evan You himself.

“It gave a clear picture of where Vue is heading — better performance, new features, but still keeping the simplicity that makes it so developer-friendly,” he shared.

Nuxt also played a major role at the conference, with several talks showing how much it has matured as a tool. It's increasingly seen not just as a nice addition, but as a core part of building scalable Vue applications.

And as trends evolve, so do responsibilities. A talk by Louëlla Creemers on accessibility brought that into focus. With the new EU Accessibility Act coming into play, the need to embed accessibility early in development is no longer optional — it’s becoming a standard. That message landed loud and clear.

“Accessibility isn’t just about users with permanent limitations. It’s about everyday moments. We don’t think about it until we need it — but when we do, it’s critical,” said Porfírio.

Beyond the code: mindset, value, and being part of a product team

For Porfírio, one of the most meaningful talks had nothing to do with a new tool — and everything to do with mindset. It focused on what makes a “10x developer” — not just in terms of skill, but in terms of ownership and impact.

“It wasn’t about knowing everything. It was about knowing your product. Understanding what value you’re delivering. Taking accountability. Being the person people rely on when things go wrong,” he explained.

In a world that often overemphasizes tools and hard skills, this was a needed reminder that being a great developer is just as much about empathy, context, and decision-making.

The underrated value of community

Conferences are about knowledge, sure — but also about energy. Both MB.ioneers mentioned how feeling part of a broader, passionate, and curious community added a different kind of motivation.

“There was this moment when I looked around and realized — we’re all going through the same challenges,” said Thiago. “It felt like a real community. People genuinely open to sharing.”

Porfírio added how valuable it was to meet people behind the tools we use every day — not just during the talks, but in casual moments around the booths and the city.

“Sometimes, you talk to someone and realize — they built that thing you’re using. It’s a different level of connection and learning.”

Bringing it back to Mercedes-Benz.io

Coming back from the conference wasn’t about having a list of bullet points to implement immediately — it was about gaining perspective.

“Many of the talks reinforced things we’re already doing at Mercedes-Benz.io — especially around performance and accessibility,” said Thiago. “But they also gave me new angles. New ways to approach challenges we’re already solving.”

Porfírio agreed that while some of the topics weren’t entirely new, hearing them from different voices, with real-world context, created clarity and motivation.

“Sometimes it takes hearing something live, with examples, to really get how you could apply it to your own work.”

And that’s the value of going beyond the screen.

At Mercedes-Benz.io, we believe in building better by learning from the best — from the broader community, from each other, and from experiences that challenge us to think differently. Conferences like Vue.js Amsterdam are more than just a professional perk — they’re an investment in our people.

When MB.ioneers attend these events, they come back with more than stickers and session notes. They come back with renewed energy, broader perspectives, and deeper connection to the craft.

And when that happens, we all grow — as individuals, as teams, and as a company.
