Fun fact:

Portuguese with a German twist – I was born in Portugal, but thanks to my German name and family roots on my father’s side, people are still surprised when I start speaking Portuguese.

For Philipp, Pride is far more than a celebration. It is a reminder of the importance of authenticity, courage and continued progress. At its core lies a simple belief: everyone should feel safe to be themselves and have equal opportunities to contribute, grow and succeed

Pride Month at Mercedes-Benz.io: More Than a Moment

While June provides a valuable opportunity to celebrate diversity and raise awareness, the meaning of Pride extends far beyond a single month. At Mercedes-Benz.io, inclusion is not defined by a campaign or a calendar event but rather built in the way people work together every day.

As Philipp highlights, culture is shaped through everyday interactions. It lives in how colleagues listen to one another, how different perspectives are welcomed, and how space is created for every voice to be heard. These moments may seem small, but collectively they define what belonging feels like.

Belonging exists when people do not feel they need to adjust who they are to fit in. It is created when individuality is respected and differences are genuinely valued as strengths rather than barriers.

Why Pride Still Matters More Than Ever

This message becomes even more relevant as Mercedes-Benz.io continues its transformation. As ways of working evolve and technology and AI become more embedded in daily operations, the importance of people only increases.

Philipp emphasises that innovation is not driven by technology alone. The organisations that will succeed are those that combine technological capability with diverse perspectives, curiosity and empathy. Different experiences shape how problems are approached and solved, ultimately leading to better outcomes.

In this context, inclusion is not just a cultural aspiration, it is a business imperative. It enables collaboration, drives innovation and helps build resilient, forward-thinking teams.

Inclusion Is a Daily Practice

Creating an inclusive environment does not rely on large-scale initiatives alone. It is the result of consistent, intentional behaviours. It means taking the time to truly listen before responding, being open to perspectives that challenge one’s own thinking, and communicating with respect and awareness.

It also means recognising the responsibility each person holds. Inclusion is not owned by a single team or function; it is shaped collectively. Being an ally, encouraging others to contribute and creating space for different viewpoints are all part of that shared responsibility.

Over time, these small but meaningful actions strengthen not only culture, but also collaboration and performance across teams.

Looking Beyond June

As Pride Month ends, the commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion continues. Philipp underlines the importance of maintaining momentum and ensuring that the values behind Pride are reflected throughout the year.

At Mercedes-Benz.io, the DEI working group remains focused on driving meaningful impact through learning opportunities, awareness initiatives and the creation of spaces for open dialogue. These efforts play an important role in reinforcing a culture where everyone feels respected and included.

DEI has become a defining part of what makes Mercedes-Benz.io a unique place to work. Protecting and strengthening that culture requires ongoing effort and shared commitment.

Building Belonging Every Day

Pride is both a celebration and a call to action. It encourages individuals and organisations alike to reflect, to learn and to keep progressing. By embracing differences, listening with empathy and supporting one another, a workplace can be created where everyone feels they belong. Not just during Pride Month, but every day of the year.

As Philipp reminds us, inclusion is not a destination, it is an ongoing journey shaped by the actions we take each day.
